There is a big problem on the Fort Belknap Reservation. Bradley Fox the Grants Management Specialist for the Fort Belknap Housing Authority explains the problem.
“Here in Fort Belknap currently there is a housing shortage. We have quite a few people on our waiting list. There just aren’t enough units to go around to service the low rent and tax credit population here.”-Bradley Fox
There have been various changes to the Fort Belknap Housing Authority funding. Bradley Fox explains those changes.
“I came on a few years ago, but before that it was a different source of funding, 1937 Act funding. Since the formulation of NAHASDA they moved to what’s called block grant funding. So, we receive a block grant every year for operations for maintenance of the units that’s based off an algorithm created in the 90s which hasn’t been increased since then. It will take an act of Congress to increase that amount of funding. So, we’re trying to address these issues with the little funding that we do receive.”– Bradley Fox
