(Havre) – The Montana Department of Commerce awarded Havre Beneath the Streets with a historic preservation grant of over $350,000. Chirsty Owens the officer manager of Havre Beneath the Streets explains what the money will be used for.
“It’s actually going to be going to the sidewalk project which is over on second street in front of the Eagles Club. That area there is a vaulted sidewalk and we had to close that area down in 2017 because it had been deteriorating and we felt we couldn’t be in there anymore safely with customers as well as our items that were in there needed to be removed just because it was detrimental. We were getting a lot of moisture leakage over in that area and over time it’s continued to deteriorate. So, that is the overall plan is to get that vaulted sidewalk area replaced.”-Owens
Other places that were awarded the grant include the Fort Peck Theatre in Fort Peck, the Edward and McLellan Block in Malta, the History Museum in Great Falls, and many others.
