The first three days of August will be busy for the Chinook High School football program. Coach Mike Jones and the Sugarbeeters are running a camp for athletes in grades 4-8.
“The camp will take place from 8:30 to 11 in the morning at the Chinook Football Field,” Jones said. “The cost is $40 per athlete. We’re going to focus on technique and speed stuff.”
“We’ll have our high school kids there helping coach as well as our coaching staff and junior high coaching staff,” Jones continued.
Coach Jones said that this is the first time the camp will be held since Summer of 2019 and it will be a huge opportunity for local kids to come out and support the program by being around the current Sugarbeeters athletes.
“Being able to get back to this camp, it’s not only a fundraiser for us, but it also creates a good environment for the kids to look up to these high school kids,” Jones said.
There is a uniqueness to the Chinook football program. They play eight-man football as opposed to the 11-man you see on Saturdays and Sundays. Coach Jones said the players and coaches hosting the camp will be able to focus on the true fundamentals of football to rely on the makeup of productivity.
“We just focus on a lot of athletes; that’s what we do at this camp,” Jones said. “Things that make good football players are hand-eye coordination, catching, throwing..”
