(Gallatin) – The United States Forest Service with the Gallatin County Health Department advised the public that on July 28th Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) were discovered at the Hyalite Reservoir and Elk Grove Park Pond.
These HAB’s are caused by blue-green algae that is native to Montana’s freshwater lakes and reservoirs. through not all blue-green algae is harmful some can produce dangerous cyanotoxin including microcystin. Blue-green algae blooms look like pea soup, grass clippings, or green latex paint and is usually suspended in the water or appears as a floating mass.
