Belgrade Bandits Win State Tournament In Laurel

The American Legion Montana/Alberta State A baseball tournament wrapped up in Laurel on Sunday afternoon with a pair of contests.

In the first matchup, the host Laurel Dodgers were able to squeak by the Glacier Twins by the final score of (3-2).

The Dodgers got the first two runs of the contest in the first inning and the eventual insurance run with a homer in the third inning. The Twins got two runs back in the fourth inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.

The hosts moved on to face the Belgrade Bandits in the championship game. The best team in the field took care of business with a (4-2) victory as Belgrade won the State A baseball tournament.

Laurel, this time the away team at home, took the lead in the third inning on a sac fly and added another run in the fifth on an error. Belgrade came roaring back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game on a 2-run single. After a scoreless top of the sixth inning for the Dodgers, the Bandits inched ahead on a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly. Despite getting the tying run on base with one out in the top of the seventh inning, Laurel couldn’t come through.

Belgrade will represent Montana for the Northwest Class A Regional American Legion Baseball Tournament, which is being held in Havre from August 4th through August 8th. Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters platforms for a schedule release with games and times from American Legion Field.
