After a split of games on Friday, the Havre softball team only got one game in on Saturday due to weather in Frenchtown. The result against Beaverhead County was a thriller and the Ponies came out on the losing end, (8-7).
The teams were knotted up at two after three innings and then Havre took the lead on center fielder Jersi Morse’s RBI double. The Ponies got an insurance run the next inning as third baseman Kamree Oliver scored right fielder Rachel Jette to make it (4-2). The next batter produced a wild sequence as Brenna Hanson singled and two runs came home on a throwing error. Before the half inning was over, it was (7-2) Havre.
The bottom of the fifth inning would be the final stanza and the Beavers came out swinging, putting on runner after runner and capitalizing on errors by the Blue Pony fielders. By the time Elle Verploegen struck out her 11th batter of the game, which ended the inning, it was (8-7) and the game was called because of rain.
The Havre softball team finished the Bette Paskey Memorial Invitational with a (1-2) record and is now (8-5) overall. The Blue Ponies will be home for three of its next four games starting with a Tuesday tilt with Fergus. First pitch is scheduled 3pm for JV and 5pm for Varsity.
