The Havre Northstars (7-4) are on a four-game winning streak thanks to a sweep of the Havre Jamboree last weekend. New Media Broadcasters discussed the success with head coach Patch Wirtzberger, who took the time to say what he discovered about his team as the wins kept piling up.
“It was obviously a big weekend for our program.” Wirtzberger said. “The alumni game went well. We always get good support from the community.”
“It carried into the weekend,” Wirtzberger continued. “The weather cooperated, which was great.”
“I guess what we learned about our team is that we’re pretty deep on the mound and we can make some plays on defense. When we hit the ball, we can compete with anybody,” Wirtzberger said. “Obviously, we found some success this weekend, but got to keep on finding ways to keep that going.”
It will be another busy summer tournament coming up for the Northstars, who play five games in three days starting on Friday. Coach Wirtzberger gave the listeners a preview of the upcoming opponents his team will be facing and what he is looking for out of his kids in the short run.
“We get to get our first look at a team from the west with the Bitterroot Red Sox, a team from Hamilton that should be really solid,” Wirtzberger said. “(Also,) one of the top teams from Wyoming, the Cody Cubs. We also get to play them there on Friday.”
“We’re just looking forward to keeping on building our team chemistry, finding out who fits where, and just keep competing our butts off,” Wirtzberger continued.
The 25th Annual GVO Memorial Tournament in Three Forks will be held Friday through Sunday. Havre will face the Bitterroot Red Sox at 1:30pm to open its tournament and then play again around 3:45pm against the Cody, WY Cubs. New Media Broadcasters will have results from both contests once the games go final.
