Northstars Rally Comes Up Short Against Cody Cubs

The Havre Northstars battled the Cody (WY) Cubs on Friday afternoon and put up quite the fight, eventually falling in a (10-7) game.

Cody ended up getting the first 10 runs of the game, which ended up coming in the first three innings. The run rule was in effect for the next two innings, but the Northstars wouldn’t say die. Havre put up a five-spot in the fifth inning. Seven batters came to the plate and reached successfully, including on three straight Cubs errors. This opened the door for the Northstars to extend the game.

A deja vu moment happened in the seventh inning as the Northstars were down to their final out more than once. After a strikeout, six players reached base as one out was sacrificed. Three more Northstars scored and the bases were loaded, but a groundout ended the rally. Bright spots in the game sans offense included Havre only committing one error throughout the contest and taking advantage of eight Cody errors.

The Harold Gjerde Memorial tournament will continue on Saturday with the Northstars taking on the Bitterroot Bucs with first pitch scheduled for 4:30pm.
