(Havre) Montana State Governor Greg Gianforte wrote to school superintendents and school board trustees to urge school districts to adopt “cell-phone free” school policies, claiming that cell phone use during school causes learning loss and lower grades.
Currently, research does often find that cell phone use during lectures often leads to lower test scores on multiple choice question tests, with one study finding that some cell phone users scored as much as 27% lower than those not using a phone during the lecture.
Schools such as Miles City have taken to entirely restricting phone use during school hours, except for lunch, as part of their cell-phone policy. As of now, schools along the Hi-Line have not taken similar action.
