Vaughn man convicted of Lacey Act violations.

(Vaughn) The Montana man that was convicted of cloning and hybrid breeding sheep for captive hunting was sentenced to six months in prison this week.

The defendant, 81-year-old Arthur Jack Schubarth of Vaugh, is the owner of Sun River Enterprises, which is also called Schubarth Ranch.

The government alleged in court documents that Schubarth colluded with a least five other individuals in gathering sheep genetic material of Marco Polo Sheep and sent it to labs to create cloned embryos. Marco Polo sheep are the largest in the world, and the government alleges this was intentionally done to garner high prices from shooting preserves. These actions violate the Lacey Act.

Schubarth was also ordered to pay fines totaling over 24 thousand dollars.
