(Hi-Line) Senate Bill 442, the bill that would have appropriated some of the state of Montana’s tax money to be allocated to counties for the purposes of road maintenance, has been considered a “dead bill” for some time now following the legislature’s failure to override the Governor’s veto which he issued in summer of 2023.
Coming up now following this November’s primary election will be a new legislative session, with the chance that the bill be reworked and sponsored again to be made law. New Media Broadcasters asked the author of SB 442, Senator Mike Lang, if he thinks we’ll see a similar bill be proposed again.
“Well right now you’d have to say it would, wouldn’t you? Because it had 138 legislators out of 150 approve that bill. But I doubt that anybody wants to fight the Governor because the Governor has made a statement that this kind of legislation is not going through but it’s pretty ironic that 138 approved it, and he vetoed it.”
Senator Lang will not be in the next legislative session as he’s hit his term limit.
