Skylights volleyball closed out the regular season at Carroll College on Saturday afternoon and the Skylights came back for a (18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-10) victory.
After a forgetful first set, the Skylights kept it close in the second, trailing by only a point, (11-10) before Carroll rattled off 10 in a row and an overall mark of (14-9) in the back end.
Northern got back on the board in the third, jumping out to a (13-5) lead and holding off Carroll to win three of the final four set points. The Skylights had the same recipe in the fourth set with an (11-5) start, but again squander the lead late as the Saints came back, (21-20) before MSU-N again found rhythm with a (6-3) run sparked by an Alana Graves kill and a Saints hitting error.
It all came down to the final set. Northern played the same way as the recents as the Skylights built a (6-1) edge and were able to limit any damage the opposition threw at them. Graves had a team-high 14 kills and eight blocks, while Lexa Stock played her best match as a Northern player, secured 13 kills and two blocks. Macee Murphy and Emily Feller combined for 54 assists, while Baily Egan had 32 digs.
It is now time for the Frontier Conference tournament, which will be hosted over Friday and Saturday in the Armory Gym. Because of Northern’s win and Rocky’s loss to Montana Western, the Skylights will be the No. 5 seed and immediately play again against Carroll in the first round.
