MSU-N Wrestling Results – Missouri Valley Collegiate

MSU-Northern wrestling had placers galore at the Missouri Valley Collegiate tournament this past weekend. Out of 50 teams that participated, MSU-N finished second as a squad. The Lights sent 12 wrestlers and placed seven. Three Lights placed in the top-3, while the rest were fifth and sixth placers.

Leading off was Kolten Powers at 125 pounds, who got third place overall. He made it all the way to the semifinals before bouncing back after a loss on the mat to claim the spot. At 157 pounds, Justin Windauer took home fifth. He ran through the consolation bracket and was able to win the place match by forfeit.

In the 165-pound weight division, Travis Waldner was also fifth, although his path was different with his triumphs in the championship rounds and then in the consolation bracket, beating fellow Montanan program wrestler Bridger Hall from Providence. At 174 pounds, Devin Crawford took home third place. After sweeping through the championship rounds, he dropped a match to Abel Nava from Providence before winning two consolation duals by fall and two by major decision.

Rylin Burns took home second place in the 184-pound weight division. He did so in a multitude of ways before bowing out in the championship due to injury. Austin Vanek also placed at 197 pounds in fifth place, while Shane Mattson rounded out the heavyweight divisions with a sixth place finish at 285 pounds.

The Lights wrestlers will have an all-day event on Saturday at the Tyler Plummer Classic, which takes place in Dickinson, ND.
