(Havre) As previously reported by New Media Broadcasters, Montana Premium Processing Cooperative in Havre received $50,000 in grant funding from the Montana Department of Agriculture.
The Coop plans to use the new money to further facilitate a smokehouse construction project as a part of the processing plant.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Matt Rains, Project Manager at MPPC, who says that this new addition will bring immediate benefits to the community.
“In terms of Havre, getting the smoke house up brings almost instantly two to three jobs and allows our capacity to expand so we can get more animals coming through. The smokehouse doesn’t require the aging which allows us to push more through our coolers faster”
Rains also says that the new addition will also give co-op members more ways to retail their stock, which can create incentive for more producers to join.
