On Wednesday, a couple of New Media Broadcasters listening-area coaches were named “Coach of the Year” for the 2024-25 winter sports season in Montana by the Montana Coaches Association.
For the second consecutive season, Box Elder coach Jeremy MacDonald took home the Class ‘C’ boys’ basketball honor. For the third straight year, Amber Erickson of Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale (North Country) did the same for Class ‘C’ girls basketball.
In terms of other connections made to the area, Gallatin girls’ basketball coach Taylor Cummings was the Class ‘AA’ recipient of the COY award. The former MSU-Northern Skylights basketball standout guided the Raptors to a state championship in her second season at the helm in the school’s fifth year of existence.
Other incredible streaks came from Tim Kaczmarek of Huntley Project, who was bestowed the Class ‘B’ boys’ wrestling COY award for the fourth consecutive year. For Class ‘A/B’ swimming, Billings Central’s Robyn O’Nan won the award for the fifth straight season.
All head coaches who won state championships for the 2024-25 winter sports season in Montana will be able to pick up their awards in person at CMR High School in Great Falls on July 31.
