GREAT FALLS, Mont. (Kendall Brown) — A Harlem man was sentenced Wednesday to more than four years in prison for assaulting his domestic partner, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said.
53-year-old Nicholas Dee Birdtail received 51 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty in January to domestic assault by habitual offender.
Prosecutors said Birdtail struck his partner in the face while on bond for prior domestic violence charges involving her. He has multiple prior assault convictions in Montana and Idaho.
The case was investigated by the FBI and Fort Belknap Law Enforcement and prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods.
