HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Throughout the summer, any child 18 years old or younger can eat breakfast and lunch for free, thanks to Montana’s Summer Food Service Program. Head Cook at Lincoln-McKinley School, Carol Wolf says that the program is open to any child, regardless of their financial situation.
“It runs from June 10th till August 9th this year. So we’re actually going to run in one week longer. And, again, we have two sites, Lincoln-McKinley School and Highland Park. We’re going to serve breakfast and lunch, like normal. The breakfast runs from 8:30 to 11. Lunch is 11 to 1.”
Adults are welcome to eat with the children, but the children do not need an adult present to get a meal.
“Our menu is kid-friendly. Once again, stuff that we normally serve during the school year. So, it’s a good menu. It’s kid-friendly. We’re going to alternate on Monday’s. We’re going to have cheeseburgers or hot dogs. So, one Monday, it’s going to be cheeseburgers, the next Monday, it’s going to be Rocky Mountain Hot Dogs.”
Adults can come eat as well. Breakfast costs $3 and lunch costs $4. The menu is kid-friendly and the cafeterias usually have a movie on for the kids.
