MILES CITY, Mont. — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is calling on the public to help track one of the state’s most elusive reptiles—the greater short-horned lizard, also known as the horny toad. Once common along the Missouri River, the lizard is now a Species of Concern due to limited data on its population.
FWP biologists say the lizard’s expert camouflage makes it hard to spot. If you do see one, note the location, date, and take a photo—then report it online or to your local biologist.
FWP is also hosting a statewide lizard bioblitz June 21-28 with public field trips in Billings and Miles City. Visit fwp.mt.gov for details.
