Rocky Boy Schools Will Provide Summer Meals to Kids

ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – This summer, Rocky Boy Schools will be providing free breakfast and lunch to kids 18 years old or younger, thanks to Montana’s Summer Food Service Program. Kitchen Supervisor Reese Gray says that children need to have an adult with them. The adults are welcome to eat as well, but their meals cost $3.50 for breakfast and $4 for lunch.

“We’re going to be starting on June 3rd and we will run till August 2nd. We serve both breakfast and lunch. We’re serving at the Rocky Boy School here. Breakfast is going to start at 8 to 9:30 and then I start my lunch at 11 to 1.”

Gray hopes he can get a bus to take food out to some of the rural communities, as many people have trouble getting to the school after summer school has ended.

“Because after, like, summer school, then my numbers really drop, you know. They only have it three weeks in June and three weeks in July and then I got like four weeks, you know, I’ll hardly get any kids because there’s no bus to go get them and bring them in. I figured if being able to go out there, you know, kids will know that it’s coming, I’ll get a good turnout I think.”

Gray plans on having their summer meals menu out by next week and people will be able to find it on the Rocky Boy School website. He also plans on sending them home with the students and having them available during meal service.
