(Helena) – The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) reported that 18% of wildfires in the state have been attributed to equipment and vehicle use. To help reduce these numbers, the DNRC provided several recommendations. They suggested taking advantage of cooler temperatures by starting work early in the day, keeping all equipment clean, especially around the engine and exhaust, is also advised. Additionally, monitoring temperatures and shutting down machinery if they exceed safe levels is crucial. The DNRC also emphasized the importance of carrying water, a shovel, and a fire extinguisher to be prepared in case a fire starts.If a fire cannot be extinguished immediately, it is important to call 911.
