Great Falls, MT – Defense and team basketball is how Havre High Blue Pony girls routed the Bulldogs of Whitefish in the State A quarterfinal Thursday night (51-23).
The Blue Ponies opened up the game with a 8-2 start with very balanced scoring from Gary, Jarvis and Ela Harber each scoring 4 points helping the Blue Ponies hold a 14-11 lead after one quarter.
Coach Brown and the Blue Ponies stepped it up defensively not allowing a made field goal by the Bulldogs in both of the second and third quarters. Havre outscored Whitefish 47-12 through the final three periods.
“We Hang our hat on the defensive end, that’s something we work on everyday. We’ve got a great group of kids willing to work and play physical. I mean it really clicked for us this year and their doing a really nice job on that end of things.” Coach Brown commented postgame on his teams defensive performance.
Havre was led on offense by seniors Ariana Gary and Amya Jarvis. Gary led all scorers with 17 points while Jarvis put a double double scoring 14 points and collected 11 rebounds. Jarvis and Gary outscored the Bulldogs on their own combining for 31 points (31-23).
