Daines Secures Nearly $1M in EPA Funding for MT Brownfields Sites

U.S. SENATE (NMB) – U.S. Senator Steve Daines on Wednesday announced $900,000 will be directed to Montana communities to help fund the cleanup of Brownfields. A press release says that Daines voted to secure the funding in 2019.

Daines said, “This funding will ensure that our rural communities get the help they need. From new housing in tribal communities at Fort Belknap, to recreational opportunities in Missoula County, to cleaning up properties containing asbestos and lead-based paint to help with tourism in Browning, this funding will help improve the livelihood of many in our great state.”

The grant provides nearly $1 million through the EPA’s Brownfields Program which provides direct funding for brownfields assessment, cleanup, revolving loans, environmental job training, technical assistance, training, and research.

The $900,000 in grants will go to the Fort Belknap Community Economic Development Corporations, Missoula County and the Sweetgrass Development Corporation for distribution.

The Fort Belknap Reservation received $300,000.
