Havre, MT – Sunday afternoon at American Legion Field the Havre Northstars open the season with a non-conference matchup against the Helena Reps. Game one was a close battle that ended with a Northstars loss 5-4. Game two was a controlled by The Reps who claimed a 16-1 victory.
Heading into the game first year head coach Ben Mader said the team had very little preseason practices due to weather. Coach Mader thought all things considered the season openers went well despite taking two losses.
“The first game I thought we played well, We should’ve hit better, but we didn’t. That was a tight game well played by both teams. We got a good showing from our starter [pitcher] in game one and then relievers game in and I was really impressed with those guys being efficient in the strike zone. Game two was a completely different story and that really well-disciplined hitting team from Helena put it on us.”
Next up the Northstars will host Glasgow for a non-conference double header on Sunday May 3rd.
