Great Falls, Mont. — The Havre Northstars left no doubt about who the top team in the American Legion Class A North District is.
Already assured of a berth in the State Tournament, the Northstars completed an undefeated run through the North District Tournament on Sunday, overpowering the Great Falls Chargers 19-9 in six innings to capture the district championship.
Havre faced an early challenge after falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but the response was immediate and emphatic. The Northstars erupted for six runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Quinn Elliot that sparked the offensive outburst.
The bats stayed hot in the second inning as Havre stretched its lead to 9-2. RBI singles from Connor Essert and Kody Standiford fueled another productive frame, and the Northstars never looked back, scoring at least one run in every inning of the six-inning contest.
Holding a 14-9 advantage entering the bottom of the sixth, Havre put the finishing touches on its championship performance. The Northstars plated five runs to invoke the mercy rule, with RBI singles from Archer Sawdey and Connor Essert helping seal the 19-9 victory.
Havre’s offense was relentless throughout the afternoon, piling up 16 hits. Sawdey, Elliot, and Standiford each recorded three-hit performances to lead a balanced attack that consistently put pressure on the Chargers.
On the mound, Simeon Keever earned the victory after allowing four earned runs on eight hits. Teegan Solomon, Michael Thompson, and Cooper Walton each contributed quality relief appearances to help close out the championship win.
One year after finishing as runner-up to the Vauxhall Spurs, the Northstars returned with unfinished business. This time, Havre completed the job in dominant fashion, finishing the tournament undefeated and hoisting the 2026 American Legion Class A North District championship trophy.
With the district title secured, the Northstars now turn their attention to the state tournament, carrying momentum and confidence after an impressive championship run.
