HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Next year, the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the first-ever Bear Paw Marathon in Havre. Executive Director Jody Olson says that while they started preparing for the event, they found a state grant for events like this. They were awarded $12,700 to hold the event on June 6th of 2020, which will be Living History weekend.
“We’re hoping everybody in town and those attractions that do special things for Living History will go the extra mile and have something special for when all the people from the marathon, so they’ll have something to do that weekend and we’ll just kind of join that all together and have one big event that I think Havre has sorely needed for quite some time.”
Olson says that a full marathon is 26.2 miles, but they will also have shorter races.
“We’ll also have a 10K and a 5 K. And the hope is to start out in Beaver Creek Park and come in through town and have some Living History along the way for the runners to see, and then end up at the college with kind of an after-party.”
Olson hopes that businesses or attractions in Havre will do something extra special for the runners that weekend.
