Soldier Honored for Rescuing Stranded Hikers

FORT HARRISON, Mont. — Montana Non Stop Local reported that A Montana soldier was honored after rescuing two stranded hikers during a dangerous mountain mission in California.

Sgt. Adam Lee received the Soldier’s Medal Sunday for his role in the rescue. The award recognized his actions after two hikers fell about 800 feet and became trapped in freezing conditions.

A winter storm kept helicopters from reaching the area. Lee went in on foot, rappelled down and treated the hikers during a rescue that lasted more than 48 hours.

The National Guard said Lee used his own body to protect the hikers from falling ice and rocks. It also said the two people would not have survived without him.
