HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Plans to bring a hemp processing facility to Havre have fallen through, after the discovery of an easement on the property that would limit truck traffic and where they could build. Vice President of Operations for INDHemp Morgan Elliott says after they announced they were moving to the area, they signed contracts with several producers that requires them to have a facility ready to process hemp seed in time for the harvest.
“The County was more than willing to work with us and to consider changing that. It’s just, it’s a long process and it takes several weeks. You have to have, like a public hearing for it and some other things. So, for the time frame we were working under, it just didn’t make sense to, kind of wait on those things. It’s really important for us to be up and running this fall.
Elliott says they have found another location for their processing plant.
“There was a facility down in Fort Benton and we’re closing on it this coming week. So we are excited to not be moving too far away. I think it’s still a good location for our farmers, easy access for truck traffic and I think it will work out.”
Elliott says that they are out of their contract with the location in Havre and have no current plans to return.
