National Payroll Week is this week, and the Internal Revenue Service is urging both workers and bosses to do a quick check on their paychecks.
The week recognizes the essential payroll professionals who keep America’s paychecks accurate and on time. But the IRS says it’s also the perfect moment for you to review your tax withholding. If you’ve recently changed jobs, gotten married, or welcomed a new child, your current tax withholding might be off.
To help, the IRS offers a free online Tax Withholding Estimator. You can use it to see if you are withholding too much or too little and adjust your W-4 form if needed.
Meanwhile, employers are being reminded to double-check their security protocols. The IRS advises businesses to use multifactor authentication and always verify direct deposit changes through a trusted channel to protect sensitive payroll data from phishing and fraud.
