FORT BELKNAP, Mont. (NMB) – Aaniiih Nakoda College has announced their 2022 commencement speaker is Dr. Deborah His Horse Is Thunder.
She will address the ANC graduates on Friday, May 6th at 3 PM at the Harlem High School gymnasium.
Dr. His Horse is Thunder, is the founder and President/CEO of Wiya & Associates, LLC, an educational consulting firm that serves higher education entities i.e.., tribal colleges, national, state, and local organizations, and tribal governments.
Her extensive experience and expertise in higher education focuses on American Indian education, project implementation, project evaluation, and governance. She has been responsible for the successful implementation for several national projects such as the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) Student Success Program.
Dr. His Horse Is Thunder has been the Chief Academic Officer at several tribal colleges including Aaniiih Nakoda College. She earned a doctorate in education, a master’s degree in higher education, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Dr. His Horse is Thunder currently applies her knowledge and expertise by providing customized training and technical assistance to many of the nation’s tribal colleges.
She is a tribally enrolled member of the Assiniboine (Nakoda) Nation and lives on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota with her husband.
