HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Beneath the Streets is hosting an extended Holiday Spirit Stroll this winter.
This annual event, which features festive decorations, typically is held over one day, but Office Manager Christy Owens says that they decided to make it a longer-term event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“You’ll get to see it all and kind of enjoy the spirit of Christmas. We’re going to have a few items at the end (of the stroll) for the kids. So we’re trying to keep with the tradition a little bit but spreading out the time line and letting everyone partake in that in smaller groups.”
The public can take part in the Spirit Stroll between now and January 9th.
Reservations are required, and the 30-minute stroll costs $5 for adults and $3 for kids ages 4-12.
The regular 1-hour historical guided tours remain available at regular pricing, with reservations also required.
On Saturdays, the adjacent Railway museum will be conducting their special model train runs.
Masks are required and hand sanitizer is available.
Overall, Owens says traffic remains slow due to the pandemic, especially in light of the Empire Builder moving to tri-weekly service and the border with Canada remaining closed to non-essential travel.
“We’re getting by at the moment. It’s a struggle just like anyone else. We weren’t open for quite a period of time through the summer when we normally have a lot of the summer traffic, our peak hours, we were unfortunately closed, as were a lot of other businesses in the area. And our foot traffic as a whole has been down with folks not traveling and traveling to avoid crowds and things like that.”
In addition to the Spirit Stroll and guided tours, Beneath the Streets is also selling holiday ornaments to try and raise money to fix the sidewalk at the end of the tour.
