(BLM) The Bureau of Land Management’s North Central Montana District Fuels Management Program team headed back into the Judith Mountains on Thursday to resume burning woody hand piles.
The Limekiln pile burn project covers an area of about 358 acres, about 7 miles north of Lewistown, Montana, near the Limekiln Trail recreation site.
Ignitions are expected to take several operational shifts with smoke lingering for several days due to continued ignitions.
BLM says this project will help reduce the risk of wildfire on public land near private land and homes, while promoting a healthier, more-diverse ecosystem.
