Great Falls, MT – Havre High Blue Pony Girls basketball stands alone in Class A. Saturday the Havre secured their fourth state championship in six years. It’s their first since the end of a three-peat in 2023.
The Blue Ponies defeated Billings Central by 24 points (52-28) in a defensive masterclass. Havre did not allow the Rams to score more than 9 points in any given quarter. In the Blue Ponies three tournament games they only allowed their opponents to score double digits in four out of the 12 quarters of basketball.
Against the Rams Havre forced 16 turnovers and held University of Montana commit, Kamryn Reinker to just 8 points on 1 of 13 shooting and six free-throws. Billings Centrals 28 points in the state championship was their lowest point total of the season and led to their only loss against a Class A opponent this year.
Havre was led by Amaya Jarvis who played all 32 minutes, scored 20 points, collected 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Senior Ariana Gary finished the game with 9 points 7 rebounds in all 32 minutes. Ela Harber, a crucial rebounder and defender for Havre played limited minutes due to foul trouble but had 4 of her 7 points in the fourth quarter before fouling out.
Blue Pony junior Katie Tilleman was the second leading scorer finishing with 12 points. Tilleman also had the game securing steal and free throws against Dillion in the Semifinal.
The Blue Ponies’ win in the State Championship was their only win against Billings Central this season after losing the first two matchups by a combined 15 points. Havre’s win was by 24. The Blue Ponies finishes the year 21-3.
