HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Blue Ponies girls basketball team rolled past the Hardin Bulldogs on Friday night in Billings in the Eastern A semifinals, 57-40, to secure a spot at next month’s State Tournament in Missoula.
The Ponies got off to a 9-0 run in the early going and never looked back. Although the Bulldogs cut the deficit to just four after one quarter, the Ponies pushed it back up to double digits by halftime and led 44-26 after three quarters.
The leading scorer for the Blue Ponies was Jade Wendland with 17 points. Sadie Filius added 13 points, while Yelena Miller scored 14 before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Next up for Havre is the Eastern A championship game at 7 PM on Saturday against their rivals Billings Central. The Ponies lost to Billings Central last year in the Eastern A championship but took down the Rams in the Class A title game in 2OT. The Ponies only loss this year came in overtime to Billings Central back in December.
