Havre Border Patrol recently encountered a somewhat sophisticated migrant smuggling attempt.
Acting Chief Jeffrey Dinise explains what happened.
“So out in the Plentywood area of operations what we had was we had a smuggling facilitator down in Mexico actually recruit two people to cross the border, and he flew with them into Calgary. The three of them flew into Calgary and then came down to near Plentywood, just north of Plentywood where his girlfriend who was a Columbian citizen with a what we call a resident agent status in the U.S. met up with them and tried to pick them up as they were coming across. Unfortunately, her vehicle got stuck in the mud out in the Plentywood area. So, our agents did actually encounter the female stuck in the mud. She gave a story about how she is not from the area and just trying to find a residency and obviously our agents didn’t believe it.”-Acting Chief Jeffrey Dinise
He continues to explain how Border Patrol were originally made aware of the situation.
“We actually got a call from one of the motels there in Plentywood and they were the ones that actually alerted us to this event, we backtracked everything from there.”-Jeffrey Dinise
