Chippewa Cree Business Committee to Hold Special Election

ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – The Chippewa Cree Business Committee has announced a special election for the vacant seat on their committee.

The seat was previously held by Michael Corcoran, commonly known as “Big Mike,” who died unexpectedly earlier this month. Rocky Boy Chief of Police Larry Bernard has said the cause of death for the 45-year-old is believed to be natural causes.

The election will take place on Tuesday, February 25. The term for the seat expires in November 2022.

The Chippewa Cree Business Committee filed public notice of the upcoming special election last week. The Chippewa Cree Tribal Secretary will accept petitions for the position beginning at 8 AM on Monday, January 27.

Petitions must be filed by 4:30 PM on Friday, January 31 and be accompanied by a $100 filing fee.

An additional notice will be filed 10 days before the special election, identifying the qualified candidates, election date, time of opening and closing of the polls and location and qualifications of voters.
