(Whitefish) – The Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation (DNRC) Stillwater Unit is proposing a salvage timber sale near Whitefish.
The Short Star Blowdown Salvage Timber sale will affect blown down timber on state owned parcels located about 13 miles west of Whitefish, in Flathead County. The revenue generated from the sale will go toward Public Buildings and School for the Deaf and Blind trust.
Up to 1.5 million board feet of timber is expected to be salvaged from a 1440 acre project area over the next 2 years. Road maintainence and site improvements may be necessary on existing access roads to improve function of the haul route.
Noxious weed management, tree planting, and slash pile burning may be performed during this project as well.
Written comments concerning this proposal will be accepted until June 24. Submit to DNRC, attention Cullen O’Brien, POB 164, Olney, MT 59918.
