HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Amtrak has announced that the Empire Builder has temporarily been reduced to five-days-a-week through at least March 27th due to issues stemming from the ongoing pandemic.
Amtrak says that they have seen a surge in COVID-related absences among employees, reducing their ability to deliver on their schedule and impacting hiring and training efforts.
As a result of the decision from Amtrak, the Empire Builder will not be departing from its starting points of Chicago and Seattle/Portland on Thursdays and Fridays, meaning it will not be in Montana on Fridays and Saturdays.
Impacted customers are being contacted by Amtrak and will be re-accommodated.
