HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Wednesday, several fires were reported in the area. As we previously reported, the Havre Fire Department responded to a small grass fire just west of Havre near Highway 2. The fire was quickly extinguished. The Montana Highway Patrol also reported a fire near Kremlin and a grass fire near Carter on Highway 87 in Chouteau County.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Lewis Johnson said that a FedEx truck caught fire on Highway 87 around 3:30 PM Wednesday. The driver of the southbound truck noticed the vehicle wasn’t running right and pulled over to discover the rear drivers-side tire was on fire. The vehicle was a total loss, but the fire didn’t spread to the grass on the shoulder of the highway. The driver had completed his deliveries for the day and only had one package in his truck at the time, which he saved from the fire.
