FWP Advises Bird Hunters to Watch for Bird Flu

(Helena) – Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks is advising hunters to be careful hunting wild birds and poultry due to the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI) virus in Montana.

FWP has said that cases of the virus had declined over the summer but recently there have been new cases in parts of the United States including Montana. FWP is continuing to monitor the situation by tests wild birds that display symptoms of HPAI.

Human infections with bird flu viruses are rare but can occur after close contact with infected birds The current risk to the general public from bird flu is low.
