Gallatin County Man Admits to Role in Capitol Riot

HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – A Gallatin County man has reached a plea deal in U.S. District Court after admitting to taking part in the January 6th, 2021 breach of the U.S. Capitol.

Andrew Michael Cavanaugh of Belgrade pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a capitol building.

KRTV reports that “by pleading guilty, the government has agreed to drop the misdemeanor charges of entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building and violent entry and disorderly conduct in a capitol building.”

Sentencing is set for June 10th. Cavanaugh could face up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
