(Havre) The Montana Department of Environmental Quality announced the presence of harmful algae at in the Bear Paw Lake, which some may know as Second Lake.
According to the DEQ, the harm with these algae blooms is to the water quality and aquatic life, which can create toxins which might harm humans if they swim, drink or even get close to the affected water.
DEQ says that these events are not uncommon in waters across the state during late summer and early fall, and those who aren’t sure if a water body has been affected are advised to simply stay out of the water in question.
