Havre’s basketball teams set out to reach state by playing in opening round Divisionals games on Thursday in Billings. The girls took the court first and beat Laurel, (68-48), sweeping them for the second time in two weeks. The boys’ followed and played a close game, but came up short against Lockwood, (64-54).
The Pony girls led wire-to-wire and had a monster outing out of senior Tierra Parker, who tallied a game-high 26 points. Three other teammates joined her in double-figures as Ela Harbor finished with 14, Ari Gary added 13, and Amaya Jarvis came up with 11 to go along with nine rebounds.
Havre’s boys let a 10-point edge in the first half slip away as the Lions cruised to a (9-2) run in the second half and take control. Tre Gary was still able to pace the Ponies with 21 of his 24 points in the opening 16 minutes and Dax Ostwalt scored 19.
The Havre boys’ face elimination when they match up with Hardin on Friday at noon. Havre’s girls place the first semifinal at 3:30pm on Friday against Lockwood, the team that handed them one of their two losses on the season. Both games will air on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com.
