Havre Beneath the Streets Raises $13,000 for Tour Repairs

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Friday, Havre Beneath the Streets held a Roaring 20’s Underground Fundraiser to help raise funds to repair the sidewalk at the end of their tour. Board member Jerry Waltari says that even though the night was a success, they still have a long way to go to raise the $200,000 they need for repairs.

“We had a net of about $13,000 from the Friday night event and we’re anticipating some pledges coming in later. And that was a good start for our $200,000 program and our eyes have to be on some potential grants that are in the mill.”

Waltari encourages everyone to help out with this project and preserve some of Havre’s history.

“One of the big things that the Havre Beneath the Streets looses is the capabilities to allow handicapped people to come down. Because that handicap stairway, or the chairlift that’s in the far west part of the Havre Beneath the Streets, it’s incapacitated now with that part of the tour being closed down.”

They sold about 165 tickets and about 140 people attended the event. They plan on holding more fundraising events, but nothing has been set yet.
