Havre City Council Approves Numerous Requests and Resolutions

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre City Council convened on Monday evening for their regular monthly meeting.

Numerous agenda items were approved, including:

  • Ratification of a collective bargaining agreement with Public Works through June of 2023
  • A resolution signifying intent to cancel unopposed municipal elections scheduled for November 2nd. The only contested race is for Ward 4 of City Council, mail-in ballots will be sent to registered voters in Ward 4. In all other races, if there are no declared write-in candidates by the August 30th deadline, those races will be canceled and the candidates that have filed will be declared the winner by acclamation
  • A resolution authorizing the City to submit an MCEP infrastructure planning grant application. This application is for financial assistance from the Montana Coal Endowment Program (MCEP) to fund a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) for Water and Sewer Projects for Havre. The City is committed to provide matching funds with COVID relief funds.
  • A request from the Friends of the Havre Animal Shelter to allow dogs in Pepin Park from 4-8 PM on August 14th for their ‘Woofstock’ fundraiser
  • A request from the Palace Bar to barricade the Alley between 2nd and 3rd Avenues behind the Bar on September 18th for a Cornhole Tournament with alcohol sales
  • Independence Bank Pledged Securities for the 2nd quarter of 2021
  • July Claims and Manual Warrants

Also at the meeting, Police Chief Gabe Matosich announced that CJ Reichelt has been promoted to Lieutenant while Justin Gomke and Jordan Chroninger have been promoted to Sergeants. He also says the Department recently had two audits and no issues were found.

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for August 16th. Items expected to be on the agenda include the City’s annual budget, as well as a draft ordinance dealing with vacant properties.
