HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre City Council met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday night at City Hall and unanimously approved a series of agenda items.
The first item approved was a construction and maintenance agreement with the Montana Department of Transportation on a project to rebuild Boulevard Avenue. Hill County is also involved in this project, which is expected to begin next summer.
Also approved by the Council was the closure of Third Street between Second and Fifth Avenues and Third Avenue between Second and Fourt Streets on September 18th from 5 PM to 11 PM. This was to accomodate the annual Steve Heil Memorial Car Show, which needs more space this year in order to social distance.
However, the closure will not be needed, as one of the Car Show’s organizers, Cassie Albertson, told New Media Broadcasters that the event has been canceled after she says it was shut down by the Hill County Health Department. Albertson adds that they are working on alternate plans to safely replace the car show this year.
Hill County Public Health Director Kim Larson says that they did not shut down the event. Rather, due to recent COVID-19 outbreaks on the Hi-Line related to large events, they simply recommended the event not be held.
The next four items approved were all related to the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year Budget. Each of the four resolutions, which were approved on first reading, are annual tax assessments for Havre residents. These are approved annually, but the levy amounts vary yearly depending on costs. The resolutions cover street lights cost, street maintenance, the Bullhook Maintenance project and solid waste services.
There will be a second reading of these resolutions on September 9th at 6 PM.
The final unanimously approved agenda item was the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2021 Preliminary Budget and setting of a Budget Hearing. The budget will be further discussed at City Council meetings on September 8th (7 PM) and September 9th (6 PM).
There was no public comment at the meeting.
