HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre City Council convened on Monday night for their regular monthly meeting and unanimously approved several agenda items.
Among the agenda items was the second reading of an ordinance amendment in order to revise a gun law.
Due to the recent approval of House Bill 102 in the State Legislature, the City has to change their code to state that instead of concealed weapons being prohibited on all city property, that restriction is now limited to all public buildings.
Also at the meeting, the Board approved a street closure during Festival Days for the annual Steve Heil Memorial Car Show. The closure will be of 3rd Street between 5th and 2nd Avenues on Friday, September 16th from 5 PM-9 PM.
With Mayor Doug Kaercher out sick, Alderman Andrew Brekke presided over the Council at the meeting. Alderman Josh Miller was not present.
Other agenda items approved:
- A resolution authorizing the Finance Director to cancel warrants more than one year old
- A floodway easement between Havre and Hill County that was needed in order for Hill County to continue work on the Milk River Levee
- Independence Bank pledged securities for the quarter ending June 30th, 2022
- July Claims and Manual Warrants
One member of the public provided public comment, saying she would like to have an Airbnb in one of the bedrooms of her home but has been told she can’t due to zoning. Brekke said he will call an Ordinance Committee meeting in the coming months to discuss this.
Friday Meeting
The City Council held a special meeting this past Friday in order to have a first reading on an Ordinance asking the voters this November to approve Havre hiring a City Manager. A second reading will be held on August 12th.
