HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Mayor Doug Kaercher has announced that the City Council will be holding two special meetings in the coming weeks as they work to get an Ordinance on the November ballot that, if approved, would see the city begin the process of hiring a City Manager.
The first special meeting will be this Friday, July 29th, at 7 PM. The second special meeting will be on Friday, August 12th.
Kaercher said that these meetings must be held due to the requirement that Ordinances must be approved twice by the City Council by August 15th in order for it to appear on the upcoming ballot.
The City will still hold their regular Council meeting on Monday, August 1st, and a budget hearing meeting on August 15th.

If approved, the new form of government would begin on July 1st, 2023. The Council would be able to hire or fire the City Manager by majority vote.
The City Manager would be the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer for Havre. Havre would continue to have a Mayor, but the position would be largely ceremonial.
