Havre City Council Support Affordable Housing Project

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – On Monday night, Havre’s City Council met in City Hall.

They approved the blockage of the 100 block of 2nd Avenue on May 25th from 6 PM to midnight for the 7th Annual Wounded Warrior Ride, hosted by the Eagle Riders.

After much discussion, the Council also approved a letter of support for a new affordable housing development sponsored by District 4 HRDC. The Havre Hills project would build 25 new units on land next to HRDC’s office that would accept low income tax credits. The development would have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units designed for families and the rents would be up to 60 percent of their income.

There were some concerns with the project taking people away from other low income housing in Havre, like Eagles Manor. Carilla French from HRDC said that this project and Eagles Manor cater to different demographics, have different income requirements, and offer different services.

At the end of the meeting, one member of the public asked about Burger King’s potential restaurant in Havre. Havre Mayor Tim Solomon said that despite some rumors going around town, they have not heard anything new from Burger King. He says the restaurant chain told them they would put out bids for the project and get the proper permits, but they haven’t gotten back to the City.
