HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Elks Lodge is once again holding their annual Veterans Giving Tree program.
Elks Lodge Secretary Brandy Kurtz says this is their way of giving back by having the community donate essential items to those who served our country.
“Not what they want, but what they need. One guy, for example, needed a 12-inch frying pan. Another guy last year needed a pair of good insulated work boots. We’ve had everything from socks to underwear to water. You name it, we’ve had it.”
Kurtz says this program was started several years ago and means a lot to her family and the Elks.
“My husband is a Vet himself, so it’s near and dear to our heart. We have a Veterans Committee at the Elks and they are all part of either the VFW or American Legion or other organizations. And there is other people that are out there that need help. They need assistance, but are too prideful to ask. So if a sister or a brother or a niece or a nephew or somebody sees that they need (something), please get them signed up. We want to take care of them. We don’t want them not to have something under the Christmas Tree because nobody remembered them. So we want to be there to help the Veterans.”
There are no eligibility requirements other than being a Veteran.
Gifts will be delivered to Veterans on December 18th.
Those who are looking to sign up a Veteran or donate can call Kurtz at 390-0091.
