Blue Pony football has split each of the first four fixtures on the schedule. New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Jake Eldridge about the team’s most recent game, a home win against Dawson County, in which his squad didn’t waver in giving up the first score and then not allowing a single point on defense the rest of the night.
“The think No. 1 was just leadership within the team,” Eldridge said. “Our seniors and our captains have done a really good job of leading this group of guys.”
“And then just No. 2 is the perseverance throughout,” Eldridge continued. “It would have been really easy for the guys to start hanging their heads, especially after (having lost) two (games) in a row and then going down.”
“They didn’t do that, so kudos to them. All the credit in the world (goes) to those guys and their resolve,” Eldridge said. “Their fight and their competitive spirit. We knew that this team had that and we just tested ourselves these last couple of weeks.”
Havre has its homecoming football game against Lockwood this week. Eldridge said what he’s seen on film from the Lions and how they can possess a challenge to spoiling the party at Blue Pony Stadium on Friday night.
“They’ve got a really big offensive line and defensive line,” Eldridge said. “And they’ve got some really dynamic skill guys on the outside and in the backfield.”
“They’ve got tons of playmakers all over the place,” Eldridge continued. “They’re well coached and they do a really good job with the things that they’re trying to do.”
“It’s going to be a competitive game,” Eldridge said. “Our guys are excited. We’re prepared. We’re ready to rock and roll (on) Friday.”
